Hot's Prototype Hallaniyat Geet

A Story-Style Blog from Oceanactivefishing.

"A great memory and fish we caught down on the islands. We had set up a trip for the Hots team, Minami-san and Chris T to test some new rods. We had discussed the trip for a long time and had met at the Sportsfishing Show in Japan and also fished together in Hatteras. So we had planned this trip and to target a big GT.

Finally the day came to start the trip and we had a great time, first day we caught a couple of smaller geets, but we knew there was some big fish on a drop off on the top island Kibli. The second day we made it up to the top islands and we had perfect calm weather, but we knew on day 4 we had some bad weather coming and we were going to move the trip up to Musandam. The calm weather made it tough for the guys but we wanted one big fish! We fished and fished with hardly any drift or current. Chris was testing out the new prototype 73XXXH tuna rod, finally a big swirl under the lure close to the boat and then nothing!! Chris put in another quick cast and worked the lure and up came a huge angry fish, swirled, swirled and out the water engulfing the popper close the the boat! Chris hit the fish almost came off the anchor hatch but using all his experience got his balance and fight was on, but it was very clear very quickly this fish was a behemoth and in shallow water the game was over quickly and the fish reefed us! Total devastation for the fisherman, tackle and crew! We seriously thought that was our chance!

Next day we were back in the same area and still great conditions but we knew the next morning early we were going to have to run from the weather, so Chris was back at it and put in a huge effort, cast after cast, drift after drift. As we thought it was not going to happen the ocean opened up and a huge fish took the popper first go! Chris was not going to let this fish get away and put a locked drag on the short 73XXXH and got the fish under control in shallow water! A short hectic fight and we saw this tank of a fish come up! We landed a great 60kg+ geet to seal the deal for the trip!"
